What is the Aquajogger?
The Aquajogger is a buoyancy belt that allows an early return to swimming pool exercises when you have an injury that would otherwise stop you from exercising. It clips around the waist and keeps your feet off the bottom of the pool, allowing the user to run without putting weight through their injury. It can significantly reduce the time that someone is out with a sports injury.
The Aquajogger is ideal where you have an injury that requires a rest from the impact of your normal sport. It enables you to allow the injury to recover, without suffering a decline in your general fitness level. By maintaining your general fitness in the pool, the recovery process is accelerated and you can get back to your sport faster.
The benefits of exercise in water can be continued even after regaining full fitness. These include:
- The pressure of the water in the pool improves circulation and reduces swelling in the injured areas.
- Water increases joint mobility and flexibility.
- Water induces relaxation and provides a feeling of well-being.
- Water pressure increases blood volume per heart stroke (this works your heart muscle more and over time your heart gets more efficient), enhancing cardiac conditioning.

Irelands’ Leisure Industry Celebrates National White Flag Quality Awards
Leisure and Fitness professionals from all over Ireland gathered in Salthill Hotel in Galway on Friday night, 14th November, to celebrate the annual Ireland Active National White Flag Quality Standards Award event. These awards are the main social event in the calendar year for those working in the leisure industry, and was attended by over 300 delegates.
The White Flag National Quality Standard, grades facilities’ operational standards, similar to the Blue Flag award which classifies Ireland’s beaches, and it is fast becoming the most sought after accolade in the leisure industry! It is the only industry specific award for the Irish Leisure and Spa Industry.
The White Flag National quality standard is based on the 3 essential areas when operating any leisure centre or spa: Safety, Hygiene & Maintenance and Customer Care. The standard is designed to encourage continuous improvement and it is categorised into three levels for the leisure centre sector: Gold, Silver and Bronze. During 2014, Ireland Active introduced a new section for the hotel leisure centre sector. This has been received very positively nationally. This section has 2 levels – Diamond and Emerald.
Christine Moloney Christine Moloney, Chairperson of Ireland Active said “The White Flag National standard is a best practice management framework to provide good quality facilities and services to the consumer in a safe and hygienic environment. Every consumer should be aware of the professional standards required and quality mark in the leisure facilities they attend”.
